 | OK, this isn't a wine or food story, but I think is still interesting none-the-less. So gets a mention anyway....
I come in for a fair bit of stick about my love of all things technical. I've been banging on to anyone who'll hear (well, mainly the family) that Web 2.0 is the way forward, as it's stuffed full of possibilities. And I think I've just been vindicated! (I just had to blog about it today, because as my wife kindly points out, it's not often I'm right.....!)
It seems Twitter (a micro-blogging service that I've belonged to for some time) is now making history. Members claim they were the first to break the news of the China earthquake - before any established news agency got hold of the story. Rory Cellan-Jones is the BBC's Technology Correspondent. Read his interesting article here.
Robert Scoble is mentioned in the BBC article, and is actually someone I have been following on Twitter for a while now. Mostly for his writing on web 2.0 and other techy stuff. I too woke up and saw his Twitterings, just like Rory Cellan-Jones at the BBC. In fact, I found the BBC story because Robert mentioned it on Twitter - nice to know I'm following the right people!
This may not seem a big deal, but it is. Several news providers like the BBC, ITV and Sky have flirted with "citizen journalism". (This means using first-hand reports from witnesses to crashes and crimes, using photos and videos of things like tornados in Birmingham and the aftermath of bombs on London Underground. Although as Private Eye magazine points out, they have to be careful of mischievous citizens using stills from films or photoshopping pictures of celebrities into crowd scenes!) Twitter's gone one step further, and reminded us how we're all interconnected these days. If you've ever wondered what other people's lives are really like; what they dream about, hope for and get down to doing then I can heartily recommend Twitter! (By the way, if you want to find out what I'm up to, you can follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/surf4wine.
We're trying hard to make the most of new technology at Surf4Wine. I can't report any earthquakes in this part of the world, but it looks as though something seismic is happening in cyberspace. You heard it here first! |

| | Surf4Wine on Twitter... plus some changes to our Blog | Permalink | Posted by Andrew Chapman on March 26th 7:43am.
I've been 'Twittering' via Twitter for a while now, on everything from what wine I've been buying for Surf4Wine, through to what I'm doing for the week-end (including what I've been tasting and drinking) - and I've met some great people over there. If you haven't got the twitter bug yet, find out more here, here and here - it might not be for everyone, but it can be pretty addictive!
It's a great way to keep people up-to-date with all the goings on here in Surf4Wine, and heaps of other stuff out there that might be interesting. And it's quick and easy for news in bite-sized chunks. An immediate take on the world as it is right now. Follow me on Twitter (you'll need a Twitter account if you don't already have one). The whole Twitter might not be for you, but you might be interested in some of my Twitterings (especially as there will be the odd special offer over there, plus promo codes from time to time as we roll out the latest new developments here at Surf4Wine). So, to make life a tad easier, we have added my Twitter posts to the right hand side of our main Blog page. That way you don't miss out, but don't have to jump straight into the twitter-universe either. Couple of other changes to our main Blog while I'm here: Like most Blogs we now have a ' Category' list to sort our various Blog posts into useful sub-categories to make it easier to find stuff. And now also an archive of our older posts if you want to go back and find something. Plus we've beefed up of social book marking links to make it easier to save any of our posts to your favourite place online. All helpful we hope :) There's other cool stuff planned too - both on the Blog and around Surf4Wine. We'll Blog all the updates and changes here first, so why not bookmark or Blog, or subscribe to us via our RSS feed (and don't worry, I didn't know what the heck an RSS feed was until we started blogging: find out more here.) Thank you BBC!) Catch you later...

| | Twittering about wine | Permalink | Posted by Andrew Chapman in News and Comments - October 7th 2007 9:15am.
I signed up for Twitter today, so I can Twitter about wine, life and the Universe (i.e. Blog) when not in office, or in front of my laptop. (This style of updates has been described as "micro-blogging").
S4WBlog will be carrying an RSS feed of my Twitter posts so you can go there to read what I've been Twittering about, or you can add the RSS feed to your own preferred RSS Viewer/Reader (What is an RSS viewer/reader?). Anyway, this idea gets its first proper outing Monday 8th October when I'm off to the Wines of South Africa Mega-tasting in London. Monday and Tuesday are for the Trade, (i.e. us!), then the general public next two days. But as most of you who know me will testify, I never stop Twittering about wine, one way of another, so you're sure to get lots of WineTwitters here!
